Along with housing prices, child-care costs are among the last remnants of inflation haunting Americans — a point that Biden administration economists have conceded. Although gas, cars and groceries, including bread, bacon and vegetables, have all become cheaper in the past year, day-care costs have risen 6.2 percent — more than double the rate of overall inflation.
Those high costs are increasingly factoring into how people plan to vote in the presidential election, just over six weeks away. More than one-third of mothers who are registered to vote said they worry “a lot” about affording child care, according to a recent KFF poll. – Washington Post

So after the plunge in prices right after the pandemic sending the economy over a cliff, inflation kicked in and the Fed rose rates to put the breaker on the extremely healthy Biden economy that featured huge wage increases. Workers are making lots more money per hour and so on. And they are liking that. And those wage increases include more pay for child care work as well. So it’s a double edge to that wage increase. Thing is, let’s be honest. Wages do not come back down. Some prices do, but most don’t, except for energy which is manipulated by the cartels. But at least some prices have started to decrease and inflation is all but licked, thanks to Powell and the crew. But the only way out is economic growth. Not too much or too little, but just right, just the way Goldilocks likes her porridge. Enter 2024 politics: Republicans hate spending, they’d sooner see children go uncared for and mothers on the streets than squeeze a dime out between those penny pinching mitts. And Trump will say anything to try to keep hisself out of jail. On the other hand, President Kamala Harris, and VP Tim Walz and the Democrats, if they can take back the house and keep the senate, would find a way to help fund the cost of child care for families who need it—while the economy self adjusts to the new tide floating all the boats. It’s a no brainer. Vote Harris – Walz and D across the board. You want leaders in office who will work to get things done for the American people. -MG
