   This debate between Jeffrey Sachs and Niall Ferguson is hilarious. You have Sachs criticizing the top 1% for benefiting from bailouts that HE argued for. Yes, he argued for recapitalizing banks with bailouts and deficits instead of chapter 11 and conversion of bondholders into shareholders. And you have Niall Ferguson refusing to discuss the bailouts, when the bailouts are the main thing that pissed people off. You might as well have a debate between Simon Johnson and AEI, where Johnson criticizes the bailouts that HE argued for, and AEI constantly tries to change the subject to housing policy of encouraging loans to dubious borrowers.

   None of these people address the rage of the tea party and the occupy wall street protesters at recapitalizing banks with bailouts and deficits rather than bankruptcy. The elite pundits on the right and left should listen to what people are pissed off about instead claiming they support each pundit’s pet theories.
