The Safe Haven That Rocks

Check out Apple’s relative performance today.  Impressive.

Let’s see how it closes, but it has broken out to a recent high.   We  noted this stock may become the safe haven for captive equity investors.   Looks like the case, at least for today.

Nikkei Ugly

Seems like yesterday that everyone wanted to emulate the Japanese.

The Nikkei stock index is down 78 percent a little more than 22 years after its peak at the end of 989.   Imagine the U.S. equivalent –  the S&P500 at 343.61 in 2029.

What an incredible to testament to the civility of the Japanese people.  Hard to imagine peace in the street in the U.S. in similar circumstances.

China’s Fledging Wine Market

Recall our post a few years back about the wine bubble developing in Hong Kong.

Although most of the new demand has a mainland-China connection, there have been buyers from South Korea, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand, all of which still tax wine heavily…Moving wine into these countries would be costly. But for many buyers that is beside the point. They are buying to invest, not to imbibe. Their bottles will remain in the vaults…

Now it appears wine consumption is on the rise.  The times they are a changin‘!
